Sidmouth has two beaches - the main one seen here at Clifton and just a short walk along the Esplanade will take you to a smaller one known as Jacobs Ladder. This is so called because of the wooden staircase that leads down to the beach. The beach is approximately 1 mile long and is set in a beautiful sheltered bay.There you can hire a beach hut, enjoy a snack and wait for the tide to ebb to expose those golden sands....
