Salcombe Regis, Sidbury and Sidford
There is no finer English village setting than at Salcombe Regis. Unspoilt and secluded, it comes alive with the annual Country Fair.
It is the home too of the famous Donkey Sanctuary. Sidbury, with its lovely cottage frontages and gardens, is another haven of tranquil village charm. No wonder it has won the Best Kept Village comptition so many times. The traditional Sidbury Fair in September is held beside St. Giles Church, open for guided tours on Thursday afternoons in summer. The Salty Monk guesthouse in Sibdury is a lovely spot for a sumptious Devon Cream Tea!
Downstream is Sidford, famous for its Norman packhorse bridge. Dating from the 12th century, it is a significant part of local history, not least as the location of a reported skirmish in 1644 during the English Civil War.
Budleigh Salterton & Ottery St Mary
Budleigh Salterton - situated at the mouth of the River Otter is a lovely sheltered seaside town. Interesting and unusual shops line Fore Street and the High Street with small side streets to explore. Its pebbles, or cobbles, were swept to the shores by ancient rivers and are unique along the Jurassic Coast. The River Otter is a haven for birdwatchers and nearby Bicton Park Botanical Gardens a delight for all.
Ottery St Mary is one of the oldest and most historic towns in East Devon. Visit the medieval Parish Church of St Mary, which was voted among the 20 finest in England. Modelled on Exeter Cathedral, it has an astonomical clock and weathercock reputed to be among the oldest in Europe.
Thatched cottages and beautiful countryside make this an enjoyable visit.

The area is steeped in history, wherever you go there are reminders of the past in this largely unspoilt area.
The picturesque fishing village of Beer is close by with its Quarry Caves well worth visiting. Kids will love Pecorama, a model railway that sits above the village. Branscombe, one of England’s longest villages, has a Norman Church and a footpath leading through fields to the sea.
